In 1054 AD, the Byzantine Empire split from the Catholic Church and entered into schism. Meanwhile, the Muslim Turks were expanding their territory and threatening the Christians in the Holy Land. The Byzantine emperor had no choice but to ask for the pope’s assistance.

Pope Urban II saw this as an opportunity to rally the Christian lords of Europe. He convened the Council of Clermont and proclaimed the First Crusade. Many knights vowed to take up the cross and join the holy war to liberate the Holy Land, protect the Byzantines and stop the Muslim oppression. But will they achieve their goals, and what will be the price they pay for victory?
